A group of hobby Shetland sheep breeders in The Netherlands founded in 1995, one of the members being a full vet. The first Shetland sheep were brought over from England not long before we imported ours from the UK, where we have very good contacts with the SSBG, the Shetland Sheep Breeders Group. This group provided us with very valuable information on the breed, whereas we ourselves gained unique experience on copper deficiency in Shetland sheep over the years. Our articles and a final paper on the subject were very much appreciated in England and the USA.
Our goal is to maintain the characteristics of the primitive Shetland sheep
and to preserve as many colours and markings as possible. In our flock of approximately
20 ewes we have beautiful katmoggets but also full colours such as white, moorit,
emsket, grey and fawn. We aim to breed the perfect black Shetland one day. We
have good breeding stock.
Our rams -Fair Isle Bryn and his son
Gijs- were
champions on a number of shows in Holland. They are renowned for their very
fine wool and good conformation. All our sheep are MV accredited and scrapie
monitored and meet all requirements for export. All rams have ARR ARR ratings.
Furthermore Fair Isle Shetland Sheep is the contactperson for over 90 Shetland
sheep breeders in Holland.
Export
Fair Isle exported 20 in-lamb ewes in 2008 to Germany and 1 ram.
And in October we exported 10 ewes and 2 rams to the Tsjech Republic.
August 2009 9 Shetland lambs and 1 unrelated ram will find a new home in France.
Januari 2010 5 in lamb Shetland ewes and 4 lambs will move to Sweden.
Please feel free to contact us for information.
